hi may be you connect wrong contac because float sensör has two concat it has theree cable one off them common and the other normaly open the last normaly closed you can find the concat with avometer normaly open and closed if it has a shema you can look at the shema

Inside the float is a switch.
And this contact is oxidized.
The voltage is small and the voltage does not penetrate the film at the contact of the float.

Three ways to fix the problem. If it's able to open the switch box clean contacts by cleaner else change the switch with new one. If the first two options are not possible or don't work the last way is using a totaly new float.
